If you walk up the gorge from the bottom up and start from Agia Roumeli before 7:30am, you'll have the entire lower part to Samaria village to yourself! Likewise in the upper part, when the switchbacks begin and you climb a lot, you are all alone again!
Then an overnight stay in Omalos and the following day descent through the Figuo Gorge and the Agia Irini Gorge to Sougia.

The passage here is only approx. 3.5 m wide and, lined with imposing steep walls on the left and right, leads to a wooden footbridge over the stream.

The "Sideroportes", the iron gates, are the narrowest part of the gorge at 3.5 meters wide and more than imposing due to the steep rock walls. A small wooden walkway leads about 20 meters across the river and through the Iron Gates.

Certainly the absolute highlight of the tour. Depending on when you get there, a lot of people are standing around somewhere and taking photos. Sometimes you need a little patience for a good snapshot and/or good Photoshop skills to return other people later. Another good tip is certainly to be one of the first visitors there. But even if you don't want to take photos of yourself in front of the approx. 3 meter wide gap, it is an impressive highlight of the route.

The most famous part of the gorge is the "Iron Gate" where the two sides are 3m wide and 300-700m high.

Insider tip for sporty hikers: Contrary to most recommendations, we only descended into the gorge around 2 p.m. So we were completely alone at the Iron Gate around 5 p.m. If you can cope well with the heat, a later descent is recommended. Overnight stay in Agia Roumeli is then of course necessary and a good starting point for the way back (ascent) the next day.

It's incredibly beautiful and impressive there. You should start as early as possible, otherwise it will be too warm. Very convenient, there are enough rest areas where you can fill up your water. I would do it again anytime.
