The market square was laid out in the early 15th century and was paved only a few decades later. Seven lanes lead from the market square to the old town. The monument to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha has been enthroned in the middle since 1865. To the north is the town hall in the style of the German late Renaissance with gables decorated with figures and Coburg oriels, opposite is the Renaissance town hall. A colorful weekly market takes place here twice a week, where the people of Coburg buy vegetables, meat and flowers. At night, the square impresses with a sophisticated lighting concept. In 2018, the specialist magazine "GEO" voted it the most beautiful market place in Bavaria.

To the north stands the town hall in the style of the German late Renaissance with figure-studded gables and Coburg bay windows, opposite stands the Renaissance town hall. A colorful weekly market takes place here twice a week, where Coburg residents buy vegetables, meat and flowers. At night, the square impresses with a sophisticated lighting concept. The trade magazine "GEO" named it the most beautiful market square in Bavaria in 2018.
