You can hear the bell from far away. The bell sounds like the bell of a goat. So we looked for a goat in the forest until we got to the water wheel 😂

So that the Waaler could see whether the water flow of the Waal was OK, there were so-called Waalschellen at certain places, a water wheel with a hammer that continuously struck a bell. Still functioning Waalschellen can be found today on the Waalweg Schenna, Waalweg Schnalstal and on the Marlinger Waalweg.
