    Kleewoog Nature Reserve - Gräfenhausen/Arheilgen 🏃‍♂️👟

    The Kleewoog and the surrounding forest are a nature reserve on the western border of Darmstadt. The reserve is located within the municipality of Gräfenhausen, with parts also within the municipalities of Arheilgen and the city of Darmstadt. 🏃‍♂️👟
    The area is approximately 20.23 hectares in size. The small lake "Kleewoog" is approximately 180 m long and 180 m wide. The water surface area is approximately 3.3 hectares. The area has been a nature reserve since 1985.
    It originated as a former gravel mining area with dry biotopes and mixed pine-oak forest, as well as a sheep's fescue and heather-moss-pine forest. The water is a resting place for many species of water birds. It features both steep banks and, in places, well-developed riparian vegetation. In the surrounding gravel pit area, protected vegetation thrives in sandy and ruderal habitats. Numerous native fish species enliven the small lake. 🏃‍♂️👟

    For joggers and pedestrians, there's actually only one reasonably good path past the lake. From the "Weiterstädter Landstraße" then east along the "Der neue Weiterstädter Weg" past the water. Unfortunately, the view is otherwise difficult and unkempt for exploring the Kleewoog... 🏃‍♂️👟

      There is also a small path on the north bank that you can walk along. From there you also have some nice views of the Kleewoog and then you can also get to the flatter shore on the north-west corner.
