The Spandau Citadel is one of the most important and best-preserved Renaissance fortresses in Europe. Today the facility is used exclusively for cultural events, such as concerts, theater and exhibitions.
The vaults and bastions of the citadel are also one of the most important wintering quarters for bats in the Berlin area. On selected dates, you can go deep into the catacombs on special tours (registration required: zitadelle-berlin.de/) and experience the nocturnal fluttering animals live.
