On Thursday 8 April 1999, Liverpool Football Club unveiled a new set of commemorative goals in front of the new Kop stand at Walton Breck Road. The Paisley Gateway was a belated but great tribute from the club to one of its greatest servants, Bob Paisley. Bob's widow Jessie was instrumental in the design of the gates, along with architects Atherden Fuller Leng, who also designed the Shankly Gates and the Hillsborough Memorial. Jessie was the guest of honor and opened the gates to a wide audience.
The goals have an impressive height of four and a half meters and weigh over two tons. The foundations underneath had to be specially reinforced to hold them in place.
Prominent in the design of the goals is the European Cup, which appears in three places in the upper arch, one for each of Bob's triumphs in Rome, London and Paris. On the gates themselves are the coats of arms of Bob's birthplace, Hetton-le-Hole.(lfhistory.net)

The Paisley Gateway was built in 1999 as a tribute to former manager Bob Paisley. He led Liverpool through a period of domestic and European dominance, winning twenty awards in nine seasons: six League Championships, three League Cups, six Charity Shields, three European Cups, one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Super Cup.
