The town of Feuchtwangen on the Romantic Road traces its origins to a Benedictine monastery, which was documented as early as 818/19 as being moderately wealthy. A fountain legend tells that Emperor Charlemagne (died 814) founded the Feuchtwangen Monastery – near the "damp meadows."
The Taubenbrünnlein (little pigeon fountain) commemorates the founding of the monastery and the history surrounding it. Further mentions of our town appeared in 824 in a fraternization book of the Reichenau Monastery on Lake Constance, and in the 10th century as a private monastery of Bishop Ulrich of Augsburg....
