Lyndenstein was built in 1821 for the Opsterland gardener Frans Godard van Lynden, based on a design by Abraham Bruinsma, architect in Leeuwarden. Huize Lyndenstein owes its existence to Mrs. Cornelia Johanna Maria van Lynden, the granddaughter of Frans Godaert. She was a daughter of Maria Catharina van Aijlva van Pallandt and Baron Reinhard van Lynden and lived with her parents in Lyndenstein during the summer months.
