    St. Georg Hoppegarten is located in the district of Märkisch Oderland in the state of Brandenburg and belongs to the Archdiocese of Berlin. Hoppegarten has been a part of the city since the end of the 19th century.
    Century known for horse breeding, the training of race horses and its racecourse. The local Catholics therefore chose St. George, the patron saint of horsemen, as their patron saint.

        Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of Saint George, to whom this church in Hoppegarten was dedicated, but the veneration of his person goes way back to early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century.
        On the other hand, the legend of Saint George slaying the dragon is well known and widespread. He is usually depicted - in paintings or as a statue - as the slayer of the monster.
        The memorial day of the very popular George - he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom - in the calendar of saints is on April 23rd.

            With the construction of St. Georg in 1905, the Catholics in the Hoppegarten area received their own place of worship. Three years earlier, the Union Club donated approximately 1 1/2 acres of land to the community without any conditions in order to be able to build a church in Hoppegarten. In December of the following year, the design by the Berlin architect Paul Franke was approved and the contract was awarded to the Büttner company in Werneuchen. The foundation stone was laid on July 3rd, 1904 and the consecration (liturgical consecration) took place on March 5th, 1905 by Army Bishop Heinrich Vollmar. It is not without reason that the church bears the name of St. George, the patron saint of riders, as it was mainly racetrack employees such as jockeys who ensured the rapid increase in the number of Catholics in Hoppegarten in the late 19th century.
