The former Köttelbecke is the first creek that was restored in a near-natural and park-like manner as part of the ÖPEL program. Today with an idyllic companion path and a small memorial for the earlier construction (concrete floor). In this section it roughly forms the city boundary of Essen/Oberhausen. In the upper reaches it is called Hexbach and is a popular local recreation area with restaurants.

The Hexbachtal is beautiful you can also take great breaks as in the darling or at the private fishponds, with very nice people just have nice conversations or enjoy the peace.

Hexbach and Läppkesmühlenbach lie along the city limits of Essen with Mülheim and Oberhausen. Largely car-free, the path follows the streams and enables a connection from the Rhine-Herne Canal (near Ripshorst) to the south (e.g. further to the RS1 or towards Gruga) and vice versa.
