The name derives from the former hammer mill, which operated on this site along with an ore smelter as early as the early 17th century. It thus testifies to the county's great mining history, which ended around 1870. The former coal shed now houses the restaurant "Zum Rittersturz." The hammer mill, like the former "Eisenhammer Mill," later "Felten Mill," was powered by the water of the Veldenz stream. Source: Text on the information board.
