Saint Anne (in French Sainte-Anne) is the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ - not attested to in the biblical texts. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal writings (that is, writings that are not included in the canon of the Bible), for example in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James". There is no historically reliable information about the life of Anna, but there are numerous stories that have been handed down, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Her relics are not only venerated here in Apt, but also in Germany in the Annakirche in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia), where a piece of her skullcap is kept.
In the church calendar, Sainte-Anne's memorial day - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.

Beautiful old cathedral in the heart of Apt; Place of pilgrimage to the bones of the grandmother of Jesus.
While there are doubts as to whether these are really the remains of the saints, there is a great pilgrimage every last Sunday in July.
