The shape of the old, straight cameral pond - for example along today's Elisabethstrasse - can hardly be guessed in the harmoniously curved banks of the Kaiserteich and Schwanenspiegel. Maximilian Weyhe used the counterguard in front of the Paul Bastion - it was about at the level of today's Graf-Adolf-Platz - to lay out the peninsula between Kaiserteich and Schwanenspiegel. It fits so harmoniously into the park that you can no longer see the technical war past. It was the intention of the town planners at the time to make the old fortifications disappear as far as possible. According to this principle, Weyhe shaped the area with hollows and elevations and ponds into a natural green island. The ash, linden, maple and chestnut trees with their wide-spreading crowns interact beautifully with the vast expanses of water. You can never see the entire water surface of almost three hectares from one point of view.
