Bread from a wood-fired bakery oven

In this 17th century Zaanse house, our baker fires his oven in a very traditional way with branch forests. He bakes tasty bread and cakes in the old-fashioned way. The house has been rebuilt and improved countless times since its construction in 1680. During the rebuilding here in the museum, the underside of the facade was reduced to the 18th-century situation. The ornate top of the facade dates from around 1835. The forge was added here only in the museum. The ventilation hatches in the forge's side façade still recall the function of forge. The outer walls of the shop and the forge are equipped with what is called a "stepped weigh" in the Zaan region: boards that have been nailed over, so that the rain cannot seep in between.

Placed here in 1972 and 1974.
