The Laufer Wenzelburg was not an imperial castle, nor an imperial palace, but rather a Bohemian regional castle that had symbolic significance. It formed the western entrance gate to Bohemia, as is already clear from the gate tower: above the Bohemian lion coat of arms is the sculpture of the Bohemian patron Wenceslas.

His image can be seen in the form of a colored relief on the east side of the southern window niche of the Imperial Chamber. Perhaps this was the emperor's private place of worship.
