The Graslei is a historic street in the center. This street forms the quay on the right bank of the Leie, opposite the Korenlei on the left bank. From the 11th to the 18th century, the Graslei and the Korenlei formed the port of Ghent. Each house on the Graslei has its own history and bears witness to the flourishing of Ghent trade in the Middle Ages. It is a beautiful place to visit, with its historic buildings and vibrant riverside life. It is also the location of the popular Restaurant De Graslei, known for its Belgian culinary specialties.

The houses along the water exude history. Today, the Grain Measurer House offers you all sorts of accessories. In the Middle Ages, the grain measurer was responsible for the correct measurement of the traded grain. Take a look at the fully restored façade of the guild hall, which belonged to the Free Sailors. As you can easily see, a lot of money has been invested in this building over the centuries! The impressive stepped gable of the old granary dates back to the 13th century.
