Marchirolo was crossed in Roman times by the Via Mediolanum-Bilitio, a Roman road that connected Mediolanum (Milan) with Luganum (Lugano) and passed through Varisium (Varese).
The parish church of San Martino di Marchirolo was founded on August 19, 1633 by the Bishop of Como, Lazzaro Carafino, by detachment from the parish church of San Giovanni Battista di Agno and addition of Cunardo from Valcuvia.
Church of San Martino (12th century), parish church which also houses a fifteenth-century Madonna delle Grazie. The visual impact of the entrance staircase, begun in the second half of the eighteenth century and completed (as far as the right side is concerned) in the first half of the twentieth century, is special. Inside the church, notice the eighteenth-century wooden organ, which was used on religious occasions and some concerts.
