Mario Ceroli’s Horse with Horsecloth was created in 1985 on commission from the Banca Popolare di Bari, which, on the occasion of the major exhibition dedicated to the artist in 2003 in the city, decided to donate the work and move it from its secluded location on Via Sparano to its current location. Influenced by Pop Art, the artist approached Arte Povera, preferring the use of traditional and common materials in his sculptures, such as poplar wood. In this work the material is bronze, typically used for equestrian statues, which celebrate figures of leaders or sovereigns. In this case, however, there is no rider and the monument is therefore ironically dedicated to the horse alone.
