Wolfhagen was founded as planned in Wolfhain around the year 1200. At that time there were always feuds in this border area of several dominions. The inhabitants of Wolfhagen came from surrounding places that were abandoned in order to found a new place here, well secured. Wolfhagen has an intact half-timbered core, although the city was almost completely destroyed in the 30-year war. The well-kept city has a few restaurants, snack bars and shops and just a beautiful cityscape.

On Sunday, September 10, 2023 there will be a family day in Wolfhagen! The shops in the city center are open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and there is a colorful side program for children with e.g. bouncy castle or carousel. Sunday shopping is complemented by a flea market on the market square. Anyone interested in history can follow the hansstadtpfad.com all day long, which runs through the city center and consists of 7 stations. Just a few minutes' walk away you can enjoy the adventure pool with warm water temperatures (heated by a biogas plant) from 12 noon to 7 p.m. It is the largest castle ruin in northern Hesse. A large, wide internal staircase takes you to the viewing platform. From there you have a great view of the Wolfhager Land. All stations can be reached by bus or car. There are sufficient free parking spaces available on site.
