St. Peter's Church is the oldest building in Garz.
Construction of the Gothic brick church, built on a foundation of boulders, probably began around 1350. The church, which was completed around 1400, was first mentioned in documents in 1396. It initially consisted of two bays and a sacristy. Later, additional bays and a spire were added. The latter was destroyed by a storm in the mid-17th century and replaced by the flat tower. Garz's oldest building owes its current appearance to design changes in the mid-18th century.
The oldest piece of equipment in the church is a granite fountain decorated with leaf-like ornaments. It is said to have been a gift from Henry the Lion to the island of Rügen. The current organ was built in 1914 by an organ builder from Stettin, largely retaining the pipework of the 1836 organ. The altar dates from the late Middle Ages. Its baroque top and pulpit were built at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1992/93, extensive renovation work was carried out on the church, and in 2003 it received three new bells.
