The Riethoven lookout tower is a relatively modern, wooden observation tower built to offer hikers and cyclists a higher perspective of the Kempen landscape. The tower stands on a small hill in the wooded area south of Riethoven, allowing you to see surprisingly far, despite its limited height.
From the top, you can see the Eindhoven skyline, the woods surrounding Westerhoven and Riethoven, and in clear weather, even the open heathlands further afield in the Kempen region. The tower is part of a series of viewpoints installed by various Brabant municipalities to enhance recreation in nature reserves.
The construction is simple but sturdy: wooden support poles, open stairs, and a platform at the top. It stands on the site of what used to be small drifting dunes, but there is no historical tower or military history associated with it. The history of this viewpoint is therefore modern: intended as a recreational project and landscape experience, not as a defensive structure.
The tower is freely accessible and is located along several marked hiking trails in the Riethoven countryside. In short: a great place to stop for a while, get some fresh air and look far across De Kempen.
