The pyramidal poplar is the trademark of the Potsdam sculptor Stefan Pietryga. The slender, stylized tree grows from a pyramidal pedestal made of corroded steel. The object evokes associations of an obelisk or totem. In this context, the colored version could be a reference to the "Egyptian blue", which is one of the oldest, artificially produced color pigments. The blue also symbolizes the natural elements of water and air, while the mechanically created base symbolizes the complementary natural elements of fire and earth.
