Hedges are valuable habitats for many animal species and serve to connect biotopes. They should be cut back regularly, which is important for the rejuvenation of the hedge. The so-called over-growth trees, such as the old oaks, can remain standing. However, pruning should only be carried out in sections so as not to impair the function as a habitat too much.
