Rheydt Castle in Mönchengladbach is the only architecturally completely preserved Renaissance castle on the Lower Rhine. The Renaissance architecture that is visible today and has remained unchanged since its construction was created when the castle was owned by the von Bylandt family.

The walk-in fortifications (casemates), both above and below ground, also invite you to take an exciting tour of the important fortifications that were controversial at the time of their construction.

Today, the castle and the outer bailey not only house the Municipal Museum of the City of Mönchengladbach, but are also a venue for a wide range of cultural events and a natural recreation area with extensive green spaces.

Rheydt Castle is a Renaissance moated castle complex on the Lower Rhine and an important architectural monument in Mönchengladbach in the district of the same name. Otto von Bylandt had the castle built between 1558 and 1591 by the master builder Maximilian von Pasqualini. The castle is owned by the city of Mönchengladbach and houses a museum.
