Wilhelmshaven's South Beach, with its hotels and restaurants, is a popular attraction for Wilhelmshaven residents and visitors alike. Whether you come to the beach to swim or relax, or stroll along the promenade, you'll feel at home. The sunbathing and recreational areas are ideal for a swim combined with activities such as sports and games.

The leisure activities along the Maritime Mile on the South Beach and around the Great Harbor include the city's museum attractions. These include the Wilhelmshaven Aquarium, the German Naval Museum, the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Center, and the Wilhelmshaven Coastal Museum.

The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge, built in 1907 and completely renovated in 2011/2012, connects the South Beach and the Bontekai quayside – the city's landmark.

Wilhelmshaven is an independent city in the northwest of Germany. It is located on the northwest coast of the Jade Bay, a bay of about 190 km² on the North Sea. The medium-sized city has 76,247 inhabitants and is a major center. Since 2006, Wilhelmshaven has been part of the Northwest Metropolitan Region, one of a total of twelve European metropolitan regions in Germany.

In the south of the city, the buildings extend to the beach of the Jade Bay
The city's history has been closely linked to the history of the German Navy since its inauguration as the "first German naval port on the Jade" on June 17, 1869. The city is now the largest base of the German Navy, and since the implementation of the Bundeswehr's stationing concept in 2011, it has also been the largest base of the Bundeswehr[2][3] and one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
