Sulzfeld is one of the oldest places on the Main. The place that arose in the course of the migration of peoples came to the Diocese of Würzburg, founded in 742, at the turn of the millennium.
The weir system, which is around 960 m long, has largely been preserved today and is equipped with 21 towers. Below are the three gates, the Upper Maintor, also known as the Police Servant Gate, the Lower Maintor, also known as the Friesentor after the Würzburg bishop Lorenz Fries, and the Erlacher Gate. The other towers are distributed around the village and are still largely preserved. Sometimes inhabited, but often reduced in height.
