The Heldenstein boulder near Maierhof > a geotope and natural monument
The Heldenstein is a quartz conglomerate boulder on a secondary deposit. The transition from quartz conglomerate to quartzitic sandstone can be seen in the rock. The boulder came to its current location as a result of a landslide. It is the remnant of a quartzitic conglomerate cover formed in the Miocene at the top of the quartz gravel. The relocation took place mainly during the Pleistocene. The boulder has been marked with a granite memorial plaque. (Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU))
