Central plaza in Montego Bay that bears the name of the Jamaican fighter for the abolition of slaves. The Christmas rebellion he helped to initiate in 1831 was bloodily crushed by the English and he himself was hanged on this square. Right next to Sam Sharpe's memorial, "The Cage" commemorates the days when slaves toiled on the plantations of the wise. The small building looks like a church but was actually used as a dungeon. The Montego Bay Cultural Center is also nearby, where exhibitions, including those on the Rasta movement in Jamaica, can be visited.

Sam Sharpe Square is a historic square in the center of Montego Bay. It is named after Samuel Sharpe, a Jamaican national hero and leader of the 1831 Slave Revolt, who helped advance the abolition of slavery on the island.
