The district museum in Ratzeburg is a regional museum in a wonderful location above the Ratzeburg Domsee in a manor house from 1766, built for Adolph Friedrich IV of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, with a kitchen from 1766, a pharmacy from the 19th century, fire engines, Biedermeier rooms, a complete photo shop, a collection of telephones and mechanical musical instruments, exhibits on the history of the Dukes of Lauenburg and the German-German border with an original "Trabi" (with slide show), antique toys and an exhibition "The attitude to life in the 1950s". The center of the house is the wonderful Rococo hall with its stucco by Johann Nepomuk Metz from 1766. In an adjacent building there is a historical shoemaker's workshop, a wheelwright's shop and an informative presentation "From flax to laundry". The manor house, built between 1660 and 1662 by Duke Christian Louis of Mecklenburg as a magnificent pleasure palace with gilded towers, is picturesquely located next to the Romanesque cathedral on the Palmberg above Lake Ratzeburg.
