The Beguinage Church is a true treasure trove with a rich collection of paintings. In addition, there are also many 17th century sculptures to be seen. The altar, the pulpit and, a little later, the communion bench date from the same period. Accessibility
You can visit the church for free.
The church is partially wheelchair accessible. The access path and the path around the church are made of cobblestones and are uneven. The entrance to the church is threshold-free and is via three sufficiently wide double doors.

The seventeenth-century Beguinage Church has a beautiful Baroque facade, based on an Italian model.

Because the Mechelen beguines were quite wealthy at that time, they could hire well-known architects. The plans are drawn up by the Jesuit Pieter Huyssens, but the execution is in the hands of Brussels resident Jacques Francart, court architect of the Archdukes Albrecht and Isabella. The interior decoration is also provided by the young Malinois Lucas Faydherbe.

The Beguinage Church (officially: Sint-Alexiusen-Catharinakerk) is definitely worth a visit. It is a true treasure trove with a rich collection of paintings of which 50 still remain. There are also many 17th century sculptures to see. The altar, pulpit and slightly later the communion rail date from the same period.
