The Vaihingen town hall in the Renaissance style was rebuilt in its old location from 1720 onwards after long-term disputes between the Vaihingen citizens and the Ducal Württemberg administration after it burned down in 1693. The painting took place in 1901. The ground floor was originally used by traders as a sales hall. (Source: tourismus-bw.de)

As always, 1693 was the zero hour: burned down. Destroyed. But the reconstruction was even worse: miserably slow... It wasn't until 30 years later that the half-timbered building was built! …
