            The Mathildenkirche was built in the middle of the 19th century by the former Cologne master builder Schmidt. It stands in Neuendorf next to the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater. Its foundations rest on a remainder of the city wall.

                Although the single-nave neo-Gothic church is built on a higher location, it is unfortunately hidden from the view of visitors to the city.
                It was the first completed church by the well-known architect Friedrich von Schmidt
                (construction period 1854-58) and is also the second youngest in the city of Quedlinburg.
                The foundation stone for St. Mathilde's Church was laid on July 7, 1854, and on June 6, 1858 it was consecrated by Bishop Konrad Martin of Paderborn and dedicated to Saint Mathilde, wife of King Henry I.
                With its simple architecture, the church fits in well with the medieval cityscape.
                The large windows on both sides of the nave let a lot of light into the interior.
                The Stations of the Cross, made of sandstone, were created by the sculptor Mormann. The side windows were restored during the renovation in 2003 and thus brought back to their original appearance.
