At the initiative of the Münster chaplain Carl Böddinghaus, the Catholic chapel dedicated to Our Lady, Star of the Sea, was built in 1880/1882 as a small brick hall church with a transept and lantern roof turret in the Neo-Gothic style. In 1905, it was extended westward by one bay. A multi-purpose church hall was added to the east in 1954. The church acquired its present appearance in 1987/1988 with the addition of an extension to the west, including a spacious gallery, a new bronze portal, and a tall, slender octagonal bell tower with a four-bell chime.
