"Strunz" was what the Munsterlanders called strontianite, a mineral that was of crucial importance for the extraction of sugar from sugar beets in the second half of the 19th century. The only region in which strontianite was found in such quantity and quality that it was used for mining The southern Münsterland came into question Around 1870, numerous landowners opened smaller and larger mines in Ascheberg, Drensteinfurt and the surrounding area, of which only a few people know today.

At 110 m, the Alwine mine in Vorhelm was the deepest strontianite shaft in the Münsterland and was in operation for just 11 years (1880-1891).

Unfortunately, only the former overburden heap of the Alwine mine can be seen today as a contemporary witness, as well as the reconstruction of the tunnel with an information board including the mineral or ore strontianite (SrCO3, strontium carbonate), which was let into the Alwine heap by the local history association Vorhelm e.V. in 2016.
