From the center of Clanezzo, via a stepped cobbled road one descended towards the Brembo river where, in the locality called "Porto", starting from the year 1614 the ferry began service which allowed the connection with the left bank of the Brembo for the transport of people and goods, in the territory of Villa d'Almè.

Once commercial traffic took place mainly on the left bank of the Brembo, therefore in addition to the ferry service, near Villa d'Almè, a building called "Casino" or "Stalù" was built in 1500, with the function of a stable and Warehouse, where the commercial carriages traveling along the Valle Brembana road stopped and for the goods coming from Clanezzo or headed to Clanezzo.

Just as for transit over the Attone Bridge, access to Clanezzo by ferry also required the payment of a toll collected by a custodian, who resided in the Port building.

An act from 1686 mentions a certain Carlo Colnago "...porter at the Clanezzo bridge in Brembilla Vecchia..." who had to ensure the collection of the tribute (Gabella).

After a flood destroyed the ferry, towards the end of the 19th century the use of the ferry was abandoned in favor of a suspension bridge with Tibetan-style ropes called "Ponte che Balla" located close to the port and which still exists today.

The work, extremely innovative for its time, was commissioned and built in 1878 by Vincenzo Beltrami, then owner of Clanezzo Castle and the surrounding lands, to connect the two banks

The Torre del "Porto" house, where the ferry was stored, was over the years used as the home of the boatman, of the "Gabelliere", then a tavern and private residence.

Today, after years of abandonment, the building has been completely renovated and is home to the "La Gabela" bar and a B&B.
