The Pferdskopf is the southwestern foothill of the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön. It is located near Poppenhausen in the Hessian district of Fulda and is of volcanic origin. Great views in all directions. A little below is the Quellkuppen massif, which you should also go to. The Pferdskopf can be reached from the Guckaisee, among other places, on a short but very steep path.

The ascent alone is an adventure. It goes over stairs and rocks through a forest. Then over steps to the summit.
From the top you have a breathtaking view of Kreuzberg and Heidelstein. And especially to the Wasserkuppe.

At almost 875 m above sea level, the Pferdskopf is 75 meters lower than the Wasserkuppe. The horse's head is the south-western foothills of the Wasserkuppe plateau and yet offers a completely different picture: between the Lerchenkueppel and the horse's head summit, wide meadows (colorful blooming in early summer), on the lower west viewpoint then rugged, powerful rock formations and a wide view.

Here the summit cross from the horse's head. The climb to the summit is a little steep. But when the weather is nice, you have a wonderful view of and beyond the Rhön.

In terms of peace and quiet, the summit is almost more beautiful compared to the Wasserkuppe (which has a great view). There is a bench and stones to rest on, the short ascent / descent is quite steep.
