Leaving the Castle and walking along a stone path for about 300 meters, you will find a huge cross from which you can see a large part of the city, and also the province. This enormous cross was built in 1950 by the Balguerías family from Jaén, but its history is much older and dates back to when Ferdinand III conquered the city, and one of its captains stuck a sword into the ground as a victory over the Muslim troops. . That moment was reflected in history and the monastery of nuns of Santa Clara was in charge of maintaining and guarding the corresponding cross.
The time and material with which the different crosses were built led to the definitive decision in 1950 to make concrete and perpetuate it over time.

“Each of these crosses can tell its own story and what motivated people to build “their” cross on this spot. (...) These crosses were erected as visible signs and attract the attention of many people. The cross is a symbol of life. It stands as a sign of our Christian hope and wants to direct our gaze to Jesus Christ, who conquered death (…). The cross is part of our lives, just as it was part of the life of Jesus.
