There is a small parking spot to the side of the road here, God bless. The condition of Buttermilk Road after turning off of the CA168 is… shall we say… NOT as smooth as butter. Or, if we did compare it to butter, it would be more like extremely chunky, uneven, pothole ridden, rock hard butter. The starting location here is absolutely NOT recommended to take a low clearance car… 👀… and absolutely the furthest that you possibly could, if you tried… The wiser decision would be to park at the Buttermilk Boulders and walk the rest of the way to the trailhead, OR to bring a Jeep, truck or ATV to get to the trailhead on wheels.
