The Auenbach Valley is a Natura 2000 protected area that is protected in accordance with the EU requirements of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive. Structurally rich, partly steep-sided notched valley valleys of two near-natural hilly streams, low in settlement and traffic, with near-natural forest communities, wet and fresh meadows, riparian meadows and orchards characterize this beautiful valley.
The Auenbach itself is the drain of the city pond of Geringswalde. There used to be several water mills, of which the Herrenmühle, Rinnmühle and Reichenmühle still exist today. Only the Herrenmühle in the Geringswald district of Dittmannsdorf is still working, but is operated electrically.
