Mars is the fourth planet in our solar system and has some similarities to Earth. It is about half the size of Earth and has a similar shell structure. The planet has a thin atmosphere, no magnetic field and very low temperatures. There is no liquid water on its surface. Mars has seasons, but due to its longer orbit around the sun, they each last about half an Earth year.

The surface of Mars is well studied and has two main regions: a northern lowland and a southern highland with numerous impact craters. Striking geological features include the giant Olympus Mons volcano and the Valles Marineris rift system.

Mars' surface was formed by water, ice, glaciers and wind, indicating a past water cycle and crater lakes.

Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos, which have irregular shapes and a dark surface. Phobos is the larger of the two and has many impact craters, while Deimos is smaller and more covered in regolith.
