Church of St. Stephen of Hungary / Kirche des St. Stephans, Bratislava / Pressburg
The Church of St. Stephen with the Capuchin Monastery is a series of sacral buildings located on Župné Square in Bratislava, in the historical part of the Old Town.
In 1737, under the supervision of Archbishop Imrich Eszterházy, František Portenhauser completed the construction of the monastery and had two more wings built with a sacristy and a library. A new wing with five cells for locals and foreigners was built at the gate. A hospital was established in the garden.
In 1779, the church received new pews, and in 1819-1824 a choir was built, where Juraj Klökner built a new organ.

The Capuchin Church in Bratislava, built in the 17th century on the edge of the Old Town, captivates with its simple Baroque façade and elegant onion dome. Inside, delicate Rococo stucco and a tranquil atmosphere invite you to pause and reflect. Particularly worth seeing is the crypt beneath the church, where the heart of Empress Maria Theresa is said to be located. A short detour here is worthwhile for anyone who wants to discover quiet places and hidden stories off the beaten track.
