"Sonsbecker Switzerland with observation tower
Sonsbeck Switzerland is a section of the Lower Rhine ridge, the highest point of which is 87.20 m above sea level. A "geological hiking trail", which begins at the Roman tower and ends at the observation tower, explains the formation of the Lower Rhine hilly landscape using six information stands. The loosening up of the landscape with green meadows and fertile fields in the lowlands and the partly wooded heights, which offer relaxation to many day trippers, gives this community its attractive character. This area was designated for local recreation in the landscape planning.

Sonsbeck is now located at a place where the southern edge of the glacier ice was during the penultimate cold period (so-called Saale Ice Age, 250,000 - 115,000 years ago).
From the ice, which was probably about 50 - 150 m thick here, a compression terminal moraine was pushed up from the sandy and gravelly subsoil of the Rhine over a length of about 70 km from Krefeld via Sonsbeck to Nijmegen, which is today's Lower Rhine ridge forms.

The observation tower is a must-visit on your tour. It's a remarkable structure. The climb is worth it, as the view from the top is spectacular.
