The Palencia Casino is an institution with a long history and an important role in the cultural life of the city.
The Casino was founded on March 1, 1862, making it one of the oldest civil buildings in the city.
It was originally installed on San Juan Street, but was later moved to Calle Mayor, where it is currently located.

Located in "the four cantons", at the intersection of Cestillas and Mayor streets.
The old City Council held its sessions in the primitive building built in the 16th century, which had its most representative offices here. On the ground floor was the "Mesón de la Fruta", which operated as a regulatory post, as well as the "Peso Real", through which all merchandise whose weight had to be checked before obtaining the necessary permission for its subsequent sale passed. . In 1862 it passed to the Palencia Casino Society and in the 1920s Jacobo Romero carried out a complete transformation that gave it the appearance it has today, reproducing the most characteristic atmosphere of the Palencia bourgeoisie of the time. The modernist mural that decorates its exterior façade is the work of the Palencia painter Rafael Oliva.
