In Weilersbach near Forchheim, around 1500, there was a St. Anne pilgrimage. The current church was built in the 17th century and expanded in 1966 with an extension. The actual miraculous image is a baroque statue of »St. Anna Selbdritt” (“three”, i.e. Anna with daughter Maria and grandson Jesus) on the right side altar of the old church. The altarpiece of the high altar of the old church shows St. Anna as a governess teaching her daughter Maria the Bible. The late Gothic winged altar on the north wall of the new church with Maria in a halo and two crowned angels, a Nuremberg work from around 1500 from the school of Veit Stoss, is highly valued. Saint Anne is the mother of Mary, the mother of God, the grandmother of Jesus Christ, which is not attested to in the biblical texts. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal writings (that is, writings that are not included in the canon of the Bible), for example in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James". There is no historically reliable information about the life of Anna, but there are numerous stories that have been handed down, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patroness of the Annakirche in Düren (NRW), where a piece of her skullcap is kept as a relic.
In the church calendar, the memorial day of Saint Anna - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.
