The Mariensteg is a 145 meter long bridge that connects the communities of Neuburg am Inn and Wernstein am Inn across the border. It may only be crossed by pedestrians and (pushing) cyclists.

The bridge, planned by the Linz architect Erhard Kargel, was inaugurated in 2006 and two years later received the Renault Traffic Future Award.

The asymmetrical suspension rope bridge has a length of 145 meters and Mariensteg spans the Inn on a max. Height of 8 meters. The total weight is only 80 tons.

Thanks to the successful planning by DI Erhard Kargel from Linz, the bridge blends easily and unobtrusively into the scenic valley landscape. Only a single pylon built on the Neuburg side carries the bridge. It is needle-shaped, 30 meters high and diverts the tensile forces into the granite rock via restraint ropes. Forces acting vertically and horizontally take up wind ropes on both sides of the cross beams. Vibration absorbers under the pavement minimize vertical and horizontal vibrations. The Mariensteg also sets accents at night. The light installation by the artist Waltraut Cooper lets the night walkway shine in the colors of the rainbow - as a symbol of peace and a united Europe.

It's good that it's always possible to cross the Inn so easily. Everywhere you can see that the Inn connected the cultural areas of the West and East rather than separating them! So whether Austria or Bavaria doesn't matter! People live by the river.
