Very nice site with a history:
The arrangement of the buildings, around a cobbled courtyard, is a reminder that this site was originally (in the 18th century) a gentleman's farm. In the mid-19th century it was converted into a beer brewery, which flourished in the interwar period.
In 1970, however, the Rubbens brewery had to bow its head to the competition from the large breweries. The contents were sold.
Fortunately, a number of people who wanted to preserve the dilapidated building banded together and started restoring it in 1995. Final protection followed in 1997.
