Behind the Kastenalm runs relatively flat and initially always along the Isar and past the Isar springs (be sure to look inside!) A very beautiful walking and cycling path with magnificent views of the Karwendel.

From the Kastenalm - a popular excursion restaurant - it is first very (!!!) steep towards the Hallangerhaus. They dismount at the wooden gate. Behind the fence, a little bench invites you to linger ... young birches and blueberry bushes, mountain auricles and the stemless gentian line the tranquil place. In the background, the young Isar is gurgling and babbling to attract attention.

The fourth largest river in Bavaria begins here. Hardly anyone knows, however, that the official source of the Isar is not a real source, but rather the place where three streams - karst springs from the rubble catchment area above - meet. Locals call the place in front of the Kastenalm in the Hinterautal “by the rivers”.

Technically, it is not that difficult to get to the source of the Isar - but the route is 12 kilometers long! The valley rises gently to the so-called Isar sources. There is a drop of about 200 meters between the source of the Isar and the church of Scharnitz.
