The Great and the Little Ahornboden – both natural monuments – are two scenically impressive alpine pastures with very old mountain maple stands in the Karwendel Nature Park. Breathtakingly beautiful landscape!

The small Ahornboden is like the large Ahornboden one of the natural attractions in Tyrol. It is a plateau, surrounded by the steep limestone cliffs of the Karwendel mountains. There are some old maple trees on the small maple back, but they are not nearly as big as their big brother. Here stands on the edge of Almbodens the Hermann von Barth monument which is considered the "discoverer" of the Karwendel, he was the first to climb many of the peaks in the Karwendelgebirge. The small Ahornboden can be reached from Scharnitz via the Karwendelhaus and the Hochalmsattel or Hinterriß through the Johannestal and far from the crowds. Due to its secluded location, the number of visitors is much lower than down in the Eng.
