The text of the no longer legible monument care sign reads:
"The De Gouden Leeuw guesthouse was originally located behind the late Gothic stepped gable.
The sisters bought this building in 1683 and moved into it in 1685. The inn was gradually transformed into a monastery. However, several original elements, such as the sculpted staircase, were preserved and integrated into the monastery.
Protected in 1951."

"Grey Sisters" were devout women who lived according to the third rule of St. Francis (which he wrote in 1223). Their founding example was Elizabeth of Thuringia, who, despite all opposition, continued to support the poor and sick during the famine of 1226.

Unlike regular monastic orders, which were centrally controlled from their inception, gray sisters emerged here and there in independent foundations. They made no formal monastic vows.
