Böckelheim Castle is located on a wide mountain cone above the valley of the Nahe River. From the complex from around 1000, which was destroyed by the French in 1688, only the hill of the keep, part of the moat, the remains of a round tower and the course of a curtain wall have survived. Today there are entire sections of the wall on the site and numerous earth walls indicate several buildings. The rather large castle was the direct seat of Heinrich V, who held his father Heinrich IV prisoner here. Despite the very poor condition, the facility is worth seeing. From the south-western tip there is a wonderful view over the country.

House of Friends of Nature directly below the castle ruins. Rest area, large, meadow and a great view are free of charge :-)
